The Wednesday Evening Program is a cherished Esalen tradition — a campus-wide convergence point that acts as a space for exploring the innovative, the soulful, and the unexpected. It emerged in the late ’70s to give guests “something to do all together.” As Esalen’s former head of programming Nancy Lunney Wheeler recalls, “Everyone used to hang out and play and listen to music, and then the advent of VHS made things really quiet with everyone staying inside. Wednesday Evening programs brought everyone together again.”
