Here we go again, a rumor floating around that MC could be back again, the last time we heard this rumor was around 2009, when Rockstar said they were working on a MAJOR game for 2010, it was assumed it would be MC5, however we quickly learned it was Red Dead Redemption.
In early 2010 there were more fueled rumors indicating that MC5 would be a 2011 launch because Rockstar was again working on a new title (which turned out to be LA Noire) and because there seemed to be some footage less totalling less than 3 minutes of a new racing type game, an enhanced engine and remarkable graphics that seemed to be literally ten times better than those of MC4.
Then things went silent until mid 2011 when Rockstar came out and denied any of the rumors about MC5 being in the works whatsoever, the question was posed about the so-called leaks back in 2011, though Rockstar didn't state that those leaks WEREN'T for MC5, it was confirmed that the team in charge of Midnight Club had disbanded. (whatever that means exactly is a bit of a mystery)
Though I cannot speak much into it, I can give you the rumors I have read, please keep in mind none of this is confirmed, most is just hear say and any "evidence" is hoax, nothing has come out from Rockstar themselves.
Rockstar San Diego and Rockstar Leeds haven't done anything since LA Noire, however are apparently "in the works" to make a new game (partnered with who else knows) for the next generation consoles. (There are currently no BIG title racing games for the XBOX ONE or the PS4, I'm aware many will speak to Forza 5, however, that is simulated, quite a bit different.)
The rumor goes on by stating that Rockstar was "tinkering" with a reboot to the franchise, stating that they'd have the upper hand in (street) racing games because Need for Speed has been dropping the ball over the years, more worried about money then quality.
This I personally agree on, though the remake of Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted were ok, they got boring real quick, and there hasn't been any MAJOR customization in ANY racing game on a major scale since MC3.
Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition was and still is millions of people's favourite racing game, for the street racing, the cars, the soundtracks as well as the all important customization, and no game has come close to it since then. When the "Remix" expansion came out, it was like they hit gold twice with the same game, made a big open world street racing game, and then made it almost 40% bigger with the expansion. It was and is the ONLY racing game I ever bothered beating 100% in every way shape and form, it was just that good and held my interest that long.
So basically, in conclusion, the rumors state that they'll reboot the franchise, add some "new blood" to it, go "old school" making literally thousands of customizations, adding in well over 100 cars, (that people will actually want to drive, not just your typical "everyday car, and this isn't including any DLC or anything like that) a game that would put all racing games before it to shame.
To me it sounds too good to be true, more like crazy fans (like me) request, doesn't seem all that likely. An interesting note is that they talk about adding REAL cities again, and making the cities major areas look identical to the cities in real life...again, highly unlikely.
Take this all however you want, I believe it is just fans wanting something so bad, but I honestly think we have seen the last of MC, really, 3 was THE game, 1 and 2 were garbage in my opinion, and 4 was ok, but again, nothing all that special, and I found it a lot easier to beat. (story mode wise anyways)
Supposedly some fans are saying it will be revealed at E3 2014, but not for launch until summer of 2015.
