A spoiler-free review of Middlegame by Seanan McGuire, part of my goal to read all of the books that are finalists for this year's Hugo Award for Best Novel. While I enjoyed this book a lot, I had mixed feelings about some elements as well.

One thing I forgot to mention in the video that the novel contains a fictional children's fantasy series similar to Narnia that plays an important role in the plot. Seanan McGuire will actually be publishing this series in the real world (under the name of the fictional author), so that's an interesting bit of meta: tor.com/2020/01/08/seanan-mcguire-a-deborah-baker-over-the-woodward-wall-cover-reveal
