In the mid twentieth century Stromberg-Carlson was a pioneer in the emerging Hi-Fi world, making a full line of tuners, amplifiers, speakers and turntables.
Stromberg-Carlson used its long history in telephone acoustics to develop its innovative "Acoustical Labyrinth Speaker System" which were also available as kits. The line of S-C tuners and amplifiers received positive reviews, but competition was stiff with innovative makers like H. H. Scott, Jensen, Fisher and Acoustic Research also pushing the development of high end audio.
By 1959 S-C was part of defense contractor General Dynamics electronics division, where products from telephone systems to Hi-Fi to F-111 jet fighter avionics were made, and eventually General Dynamics stopped making consumer products to focus the more profitable defense business.
