Most mice just LOVE baby mice and none more so than Amara, Faye and Midas. Snow is the mother of the litter, but since she is a little on the flighty side, I decided to get Midas's group to help with the baby care and socialization, growing up with very confident mice should create very confident and therefore happier babies. So today was the first day I introduced two of the five day old babies to Amara, Midas and Faye, under strict supervision of course, until I knew that things would be fine. They took to the little ones immediately, carrying them to their nest and fussing over them. Only three weeks before, Amara had lost her own litter so maybe the memory was still fresh for her to become very maternal to Snow's babies. But then she has always adored baby mice. Faye is Midas's mom so she knows all about babies. Midas though had only ever interacted with Amara's babies, who were still born, so I was not sure how he would react to Snow's little ones. But it went super, he loves babies almost as much as Amara and Faye. It is neat how mice vary in how they care for babies, especially the males. Some males go crazy over baby care, almost more so than the females, e.g. Toby, others like Midas are very involved and help by building nests, carrying babies and cuddling, but leave the baby washing to the girls, others show little interest and a few are outright hostile towards babies. You never really know how they will react. I was very pleased with Midas, he is a good little uncle :)
