The attack involved her 15-year-old daughter, Nicola, and Nicola's boyfriend Jason Hughes, who were assaulted by a gang of masked men armed with sledgehammers and pickaxe handles. Mrs Reed testified to identify the attackers and hold Wright accountable for his role.
The situation turned into a major legal landmark because, the day after the beating, Gwen Reed identified two local men Trevor Buchanan and Dale Weathered as the attackers.
Following the trial, Mrs Reed and her family were forced to leave Northern Ireland and move to England under police protection for their safety.
