Mid Hants Railway holds an twice annually steam galas designed for the steam fans. In this video we see from the period of 5 years from 2015 to 2020 of the major Spring & Autumn events. A few Spring & Autumn events are a missing from the period as I didn’t attend to them.
In the deepest Hampshire countryside running around February/March time for Spring and October for the Autumn. During 2017 there was a little shake up in the galas that Autumn Steam Gala moved to the summer time for the end of southern celebration of the 50th year.
0:11 - We start off with Autumn Steam Gala in 2015 with a hint of LMS themed for the returning to steam resident Ivatt class 41312 but sadly that never made it as it was under overhaul. Visiting engines was Crab 13065, Ivatt 46521, T9 30120 & A4 4464 Bittern. Home fleet was Black 5 45379 & 9F class 92212.
11:22 - Spring Steam Gala 2016 4th February was the memories of Guildford shed 70C, and the last gala appearance for Bulleid West Country 34007 Wadebridge which had two visitors came to visit was SR Q 30541 & T9 30120, Home fleet was 925 Cheltenham, 92212, 41312 & 45379
22:38 - 23rd October for the Autumn Steam Gala 2016 was again a strong feel of LMS and a recreation of the Pines Express. Visiting engines was 46100 Royal Scot, Ivatt 4MT 43106 & 7F 53809 which failed before the gala. Home fleet was 41312, 45379, 76017 & 92212
30:01 - 19th February now billed as Pre-Spring steam gala 2017 was a rather low key event but it was an enjoyable day linesiding the entire line. No visitors but 4 engines from the home fleet ran with 41312, 45379, 76017 & 92212
35:44 - First two weekends in 2017 was a special week as the southern railway 50 years ago finish steam on the network, to celebrate the last of running MHR held a special gala weekend of 1st & 2nd and 7th – 9th July. Up to 8 engines plus two diesel ran as well of some of recreation of Bournemouth Belle running. Visiting engines was 34081 92 Squadron, 34046 Braunton as 34052 Lord Dowdling, 35006 P&O & 80078. Home fleet was 41312 & 76017.
52:20 - A year later a few months to the end of October on the 21st which another Autumn Steam Gala this time around that two western visitors came over from Llangollen & West Somerset Railway’s, first ever visit of an Manor class 7822 Foxcote Manor alongside Large Prairie tank 5199. 80078 came for another visit which paired with 41312 again, 92212 ran also plus 76017 to complete the lineup.
01:03:52 - Spring Steam Gala in 2019 actually started in March 10th, a windy day and the line was cut to Medstead & Four Marks whilst end of the line at Alton had the bridge replace but nevertheless that the line carried on its running and special events so an smaller event with smaller engines brilliant idea! GWR Pannier 5786 as L.92 came from South Devon Railway with a lovely S100 American tank 30070 as 300 Frank S. Ross. The home fleet was 41312, 76017 & 92212.
01:10:34 - The usual slot for Autumn Steam Gala in 2019 was 20th October, another home fleet gala for some reason without an visitor but it was a good gala with 92212 ending its boiler ticket in December 2019 so that was the last gala appearance, home fleet was 506, 76017 & 30925 Cheltenham
01:19:20 - 2020 was an odd year with this unknown virus was around which it was harmful to steam railways with many many of railway events was cancelled, MHR decided to go ahead the Autumn Steam Gala with a few different things to the gala. Visiting engine was 45596 Bahamas. Home fleet was 53808, 76017, 41312 & 506
