Windows 3.0 is the third major version of Microsoft Windows and the first to be widely successful. It is also the first to ship pre-installed on various PCs. Microsoft released it on May 22, 1990 and provided support until December 31, 2001. At the time of release, it competed with Apple MacOS and Commodore Amiga.
Version 3.0 introduced a significantly revised user interface and technical improvements to make better use of memory management. Windows 3.00a, Windows with Multimedia Extensions 1.0 and the more widely used Windows 3.1 soon followed.
In this video, you can see a promotional demonstration created by Accent Software on May 3, 1990. It shows some important advantages over MS-DOS and very early versions of Microsoft Word and Excel. The music is not part of the demo itself.
