So Alex Ball asked me last year ago if I would want to help him demonstrate some KORG gear for his new documentary. Of course I could do that, so here is me demonstrating the micro KORG from 2002.

This was the one I dreaded the most, as Alex asked if I could do something "modern"... alas, when have I ever done "modern" stuff? LOL! It's also one of the less inspiring synths from KORG, at least from a preset point of view, so I had a hard time figuring what to do. Because of the "style" knob, I realised the best way was to try and do a little from most of the categories it has, as a sort of old time demo you'd find on old arranger keyboards and synths. Trying to keep to the one minute rule, I went a little over and could only fit "Trance, Electronica, Drum & Bass/Breaks and Retro" with a little vocoder thrown in for good measure. Obviously I could have looked for other custom sound banks that may be better at showing the true nature of the engines underneath – however, being a little lazy, short on time and also being adamant that the best way to show a synth is to see what can be done with factory sounds. And hopefully this shows a little of what this tiny monster can do with a little extra tweaking. ;)

The 90s called and wanted its groove back. I told it to stop, collaborate and listen! Ive had this Alex Ball song on the agenda for quite some time too, and finally got around to finish it up. As always, he made some really catchy hooks that instantly got my 66% shuffle groove going. And I of course went a little more happy-pappy dance floor early 90s style, sprinkled with some glossy 80s FM ear candy and more.
This is for those who wonder, taken from Alex video on the Yamaha TX81Z sound module and how he made a 90s Banger on it. Ive also used some TX sounds and enhanced the palette with all sorts of 80s and 90s relevant gear. Hope you like it! ;)
