IGN sat down with horror legend Mick Garris to talk about his 40-year career and his new book ‘Master of Horror: The Official Biography of Mick Garris’.

In this Mick Garris interview, he talks to IGN about first job in Hollywood was working as a receptionist for Lucasfilm during the summer Star Wars was released. That job eventually paved the way for him to start making behind-the-scenes documentaries for movies like Gremlins (Dir. Joe Dante) and The Goonies (dir. Richard Donner).

Eventually, Mick would catch the eye of Stephen Spielberg and collaborate with him on the anthology series Amazing Stories. This led the way for Mick to write more including one of his most famous scripts, the Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker Halloween classic, Hocus Pocus.

Hocus Pocus wouldn’t be Garris’ only macabre outing in the 1990s. His scariest collaborations were still to come. In the interview, Mick Garris talks about working with Stephen King on their made-for-tv series of The Shining and The Stand.

Finally, Mick Garris’ talks about where he finds himself now, as an ambassador of horror on his podcast Post Mortem with Mick Garris. He talks about what it was like to have icons like The Texas Chainsaw director, Tobe Hooper, and Halloween director, John Carpenter on his show.

Essentially, This Mick Garris interview follows Mick throughout his entire career from a Star Wars receptionist, to horror movie/tv director, to podcaster.
