In his book Mr. Shermer argues that the new science of evolutionary economics provides answers to such questions as how we evolved from ancient hunter-gatherers to modern consumer-traders. He uses revelations from scientific methods such as brain scans and behavioral experiments to explain various irrational economic behaviors. He shows how evolution and economics are both examples of a larger phenomenon of complex adaptive systems and examines the tribal roots of brand loyalty, the biochemical joy of business cooperation, building trust among nations, and the consequences of globalization.
