For decades, professional skeptics like Michael Shermer and Mick West have built careers telling people who experience the unexplained that they are mistaken, confused, or lying. Matt Ford has politely declined to put either man on The Good Trouble Show. Here, for the first time, he explains why - and it is deeply personal.
Six months before she passed away, Matt's mother finally told him a story she had carried, in silence, for her entire adult life. As a teenager in suburban Dallas, she watched a 40-foot gray craft appear "like a magic trick" about 50 feet away, hovering over a neighbor's house. Inside a long rectangular window sat roughly ten beings - and a taller "pilot" who, she said, was studying her. She was not a UFO enthusiast. She owned no UFO books. And she never told a soul - not her parents, not her four siblings, not her own children - because, in her words, "they would have thought I was crazy."
Months later, Matt recorded her recounting the same account word for word, and watched her pick both the craft and the being out of a lineup of dozens of drawings. "I can tell by his eyes," she said.
This is the argument against handing the skeptic's chair on a national UAP science panel to someone whose worldview helped build the very stigma that silences experiencers. Avi Loeb's UAP Science Advisory Council - alongside scientists like Garry Nolan and Kevin Knuth - is meant to study anomalous data with an open mind.
