I know that most of my subs aren't Irish, and for them the Kerry accent is going to be a tough one to understand. And Mr. Lawlor talks very fast!
He makes a poor case for maintaining roadside grottos here. If he had stuck to the idea that keeping them is simply a matter of maintaining the tradtion of maintaing them, I would have fewer problems with what he has to say. But he takes too many steps too far for my liking.
The worst example being his advice to trust in the healing powers of a grotto above that of a trained physician!
He makes appeals to authority and tradition. He creates straw-man arguments. He makes it plain to all with ears that can understand him, that it is his firm belief that the Jewish woman who gave birth to the Christian god makes appearances all over Ireland, repairing eyes, straightening limbs, curing illnesses, granting wishes, and protecting the faithful.
Where was she during the famine, you have to wonder. Or when our unwed mothers were being beaten in laundries while their children were taken from them. Or when our children were being abused on industrial levels by men who served her son. Or dying young from Tuberculosis, polio, smallpox, measles etc, etc,etc...
