In 2000, according to an Ultimate Classic Rock article and Broken Record podcast, just before this event, Michael McDonald was summoned to the trailer of one of the guest performers, Ray Charles, who demanded compensation for the show which Michael McDonald explained that the concert was for charity and no one got paid. Ray Charles angrily responded and adamantly spouted expletives, as Michael McDonald left the scene, found his way to the backstage area, and let out a little chuckle about the incident. In the end, Ray Charles played the gig without further incident. Ray Charles and his performance were not on the DVD or any subsequent release of the concert.
