At a Radio City Hall press conference, Michael announced a new deal with Pepsi-Cola International, a world tour and the establishment of the Heal the World foundation to help underprivileged children around the world. Dressed in black leather and a red armband, Michael said his only reason for undertaking the tour was to "spread the message of global love in the hopes that others, too, will be moved to do their share to help heal the world." He said he hoped the tour would gross $100 million for the foundation by Christmas 1993. “I invite all legal and natural persons who are concerned about the future of children and the planet to join me in raising funds for this work of charity. The Heal the World Foundation will donate funds to Paediatric AIDS in honour of my friend Ryan White. Heal The World will also work with other organizations such as Ronald McDonald Camp, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes and the Minority AIDS Foundation. I cannot wait to go back on tour because it will give me the opportunity to visit children around the world. And I will strive to spread this message of universal love, hoping that others will be touched and help us heal the world. Thank you for coming today, I love you all. Thank you.”
