On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Meyers Manx dune buggy 3D printing project, which is something I enjoy doing. I considered a variety of different VW Beetle castings, hoping to put the 3D printed body on top of the Beetle chassis, as in real life, but they were’t a perfect match.
The Meyers Manx dune buggy is a two-passenger, recreational kit car designed and marketed by California engineer, artist, boat builder and surfer Bruce F. Meyers, manufactured by his Fountain Valley, California company from 1964 to 1971. The roofless, windowless, fenderless, high-hipped and high-tailed fiberglass body was designed to work with the mechanicals and chassis of a Volkswagen Beetle, exposing the engine and taking advantage of the Beetle's light weight, rear-engine traction, removable bodywork. Approximately 6,000 original Manx kits were manufactured, but when the design became popular, many copy cat kits (estimated at a quarter of a million worldwide) were made by other companies.
The Manx nameplate and logo are both derived from the cat, sharing the cat's high-tailed, stubby profile.
In 2024, Meyer's original Manx prototype was inducted into the National Historic Vehicle Register, for its association with American historic events and figures, and its design and construction importance. Meyers died on February 19, 2021 at 94.

FYI: All of the Maple Leaf Customs finished projects that are kid-friendly are put in custom blister packs and go to my local Goodwill store where they are given to children for free. If there are parts that can be swallowed, those cars are given as gifts to adult collectors that are fellow enthusiasts.
