Backing up some VHS movies to DVD, The Hoofbag discovered some camcorder movies. One of them were two friends visiting, one Ade and the other Kirsty Burns on the camcorder. Out shopping in Walthamstow Street Market, supposedly the longest street market in Europe at one time, Frunt Hooves bought a drum machine toy for £1.99. It ran from two AA cells, had an incandescent lamp to illuminate the decorative front and a small speaker on the back panel. Hooves did some circuit bending which wasn't as big a thing in the early 90s and installed it, initially into a plastic box, push buttons included for foot control purposes, and afterwards, into a 'rat bass' guitar. The bass guitar body was constructed from a lump of 3/4" plywood taken from a skip, the two shapes being cut out and glued together forming the body. We were extremely poor in those days! A bass neck was kicking around so the bass was fabricated. The Rap 'n Dance toy seems to be no longer available and it's the kind of thing that turns up in charity shops or boot fares.
