Samus was hired to help the current troops stationed on Aether. When she descends to the planet's surface, her ship is damaged. Then the horrible truth is revealed that all of the troops are dead. She realizes something evil is going on when she meets a dark copy of herself (Dark Samus) and gets transported to another dimension.
