Starxxon | Metroid Cubed - 3D conversion - Real-time voxel engine @Starxxon | Uploaded June 2011 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
The Metroid Cubed project dates back to 2003, way before it became fashionable to convert 8-bit games to 3d.
The goal was to convert the original NES game into 3d volumetric data using voxels (3d pixels) based directly on the original 8-bit graphics. While the main release used pre-rendered voxel-based graphics, this is an experiment I did to make it run using a "real-time voxel engine".
Unfortunately unlike the main release, this version has no sound or enemies.
