Welcome to The Journey, a new original series from Metro and WalkGood Productions exploring the people, places, and stories connected through Los Angeles transit. Hosted by Etienne Maurice, each episode follows a cultural figure along the Metro routes that helped shape their path.
In Episode 1, Etienne rides the Metro 212 line through Inglewood with Grammy-nominated artist, actor, educator, and Inglewood native D Smoke. Before the awards, television appearances, and sold-out shows, D Smoke took these same routes growing up in the City of Champions.
Throughout the episode, D Smoke reflects on family, music, teaching at Inglewood High, winning Rhythm + Flow, and staying connected to the community that shaped him. Along the way, he talks about what Metro meant to his everyday life and journey as a young artist finding his path in LA.
More than anything, this episode is about coming home and seeing the city through the people who know it best.
