*Hit the Lights: The soundboard tape starts a few seconds after Lars cues the song.
*Four Horsemen: Fan tape cuts off a few seconds before the end.(no big deal there)
**Ride The Lightning: Halfway through, the fan tape skips out.
*Call of the Ktulu: The soundboard tape skips about 30 seconds near the end, fan tape is heard.
**No Remorse: Only the soundboard tape is heard.
*Creeping Death: Soundboard tape skips like 20 seconds in the middle, fan tape is heard.
*Metal Militia: cuts off during “Metal Up Your Ass chants
Alright, this took a bit of work. Unlike my other remasters where there isnt much to work with, I think this one will actually be added to my library of stuff I actually listen to. This uses two recordings of this show. One is a master tape available on livemetallica.com and the other is a fan recording.
Now if you heard my remasters of Metal Up Your Ass and Cliffs First Show, you know what a remastered fan recording from that time would sound like. Kinda empty. But if combined with a soundboard recording, specifically one where the guitar is a tad quiet in the mix, it helps fill in the missing sound.
A problem I ran into is that fan recordings from this time are also inaccurate...the fan recording plays at a different, and even inconsistent speed. So I had to stretch the track around to line up with the other one. On average there were probably around 10 stretch points per song.
Theres lots of eq on both tracks. I added the very same Ecstasy of Gold they play on the PA lined up to play over the fan recording where it also plays. The soundboard tape doesnt start until a few seconds after Lars cues Hit The Lights, so I added a recording of my own guitar for that few seconds to fill in until the master tape starts.")
