Ride the Lightning is the second studio album by the American heavy metal band Metallica. It was released on July 27, 1984 through the independent record label Megaforce Records. The album was certified gold by the RIAA on November 5, 1987 and was most recently certified 5x platinum on June 9, 2003.[3] Ride the Lightning is considered a classic thrash metal album by fans, critics and band members themselves and is considered one of the greatest metal albums of all time.
