Phil Gammage returns with a music video for Messages From the Grave. The song is from his upcoming album Redeemed (his ninth) which will see a Fall 2023 release. New York-based and native Texan Gammage co-wrote the song with poet David Schell. Phil is playing club and festival dates with his band throughout the year to promote the album.
The video was produced by PreFab International Ciné and filmed in New Orleans and Kingston, NY. It stars Phil and Albany, NY based actor / musician Michael LaPorte. Its music revolves around simple keyboards and acoustic guitar to create a moody and atmospheric vibe. The lyrics describe a female poet named Velma who passed away in the 1950s. A man sorts through her old photos and sheets of several poems that she had written. He questions who is left that remembers her and what meaning her life has now that she is gone. Finally, he is emotionally overcome by his memories of her and sees her in a dream.
“Messages From the Grave is a song about strong emotions evoked by the memory of someone you were close to that has left us. It questions who else would remember this person and who else would remember the body of work as an artist that they left behind. They are haunting thoughts put to a simple atmospheric melody.”
