Christmas is finally here. For me, today is about slowing down, reflecting, and remembering that the best gifts aren't always found under a tree. It's the glow of the lights, the familiar prayers at morning Mass, and the memories of my dad's laugh filling the house that stay with me the most.
Today, we'll raise a glass and say "Na zdorovya!" (To your health!) just like my Ukrainian dad did every year. And as I look at my son, Ian, I'm reminded of how fast time goes and how lucky we are to hold on to these family traditions like the poem he memorized as a child that still brings a smile to my face.
To the doctors, nurses, first responders, military members, and everyone else working today to keep us safe and comfortable while we celebrate: Thank you. And thank you for being a part of my community. Whether your day is filled with joy or feels a little bit heavy this year, please know that you are not alone and you are cared for.
