Mermaid vs ball gown wedding dress — which silhouette is right for you? 👰🏻♀️
Choosing your wedding dress silhouette is one of the most important decisions you'll make when wedding dress shopping. Before you get caught up in lace, beading, fabric, necklines, and details, you first need to figure out which wedding dress shape makes you feel the most beautiful, confident, and bridal.
In this video, I’m breaking down the two popular wedding dress silhouettes: the mermaid/fitted wedding dress and the ball gown wedding dress. I’ll share what I tell brides in the bridal boutique when they're deciding between showing off their shape in a fitted gown or embracing the drama and fullness of a ball gown.
And here's the thing: there isn't one silhouette that's right for every bride. Any body can look incredible in a fitted wedding dress when the gown is properly fitted and contours the body beautifully. But sometimes, even when a bride loves how she looks in a mermaid gown, she may simply feel more bridal in a ball gown — and that's just as important!
We'll also talk about what to do if you love both silhouettes, including the option of wearing a fitted wedding dress with a detachable overskirt to give you two completely different bridal looks.
I'll also explain the order I recommend when shopping for your wedding dress:
1. Choose your silhouette
2. Choose the dress design and details
3. Choose your neckline
