I entered the Inc Magazine and Mercedes What Can Your Metris Do contest. Here's my video entry and essay:
We’re currently working on a feature length documentary about canoeing in the Ozarks. Filmmaking and vlogging requires a lot of gear, and we’d love to use a Mercedes Metris Van to transport our equipment from our studio to our shooting locations. We currently use an open pickup truck, which leaves our camera gear exposed to the elements and theft. Winning the Metris would allow us to build custom cabinets and perhaps sleeping quarters to safely and securely stow our computers, equipment and camping gear.
Like Steve Zissou’s Belafonte or Cousteau's Calypso, the Metris will become a character in our film. We’ll film and share the process of outfitting the van for travel, and we’ll vlog our family adventures with it for the production.
Aside from using the Metris for photography and filmmaking, I have a father who had a stroke and is wheelchair bound. John Muir said, “As age comes on, one source of enjoyment after another is closed, but nature’s sources never fail.” My father instilled a love of the wilderness in me at an early age and I would love to use the van to take him to the woods again.
