Astra chats with Maria Athanassiou is a PhD candidate in Psychiatry at the Université de Montréal. She’s a passionate advocate for science, health education, and promoting diversity in STEM. Her current research focuses on schizophrenia, suicide, and addiction research. They discuss Maria's research, our rapidly-changing definitions of mental health issues and disorders, how treatment plans are becoming more unique, and the importance of diversity in STEM and using your privilege to uplift others.
Maria completed her undergrad in Psychology, got Master’s Degrees in Neuroscience and Public Health, and has a graduate certificate in Business Administration. Now she's getting a PhD in Psychiatry. She also has both hospital and industry experience.
