This is a project I've been wanting to make for a long time. As a love letter to my favourite story of all time and as a way to help visualise what the remake will look like, I collated more or less every cutscene from the Compilation showcasing events and locations from the original Final Fantasy VII in higher definition, all sorted in roughly chronological order.
BGM is the Distant Worlds version of the Main Theme of Final Fantasy VII
The scenes included are:
• Meteor Logo – Final Fantasy VII Remake E3 Announcement Trailer
• Starry Sky – Smash 4 Cloud Announcement Trailer
• Lifestream – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children: Complete
• Aerith in Alleyway – Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
• Shinra Building/Midgar Plates – Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
• Barret and Cloud in Sector 7 Slums Final Fantasy VII Remake E3 Announcement Trailer
• Midgar Sector 7 (w Mako Reactor 1 in bg) Final Fantasy VII Remake E3 Announcement Trailer
• Mako Reactor 1 Final Fantasy VII Remake E3 Announcement Trailer
• Train into Mako Reactor 1 – Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
• Cloud jumping off train – Final Fantasy VII Remake PSX Gameplay Trailer
• Guard Scorpion in Reactor core – Final Fantasy VII Remake PSX Gameplay Trailer
• Shinra ambush in Sector 7 – Final Fantasy VII Remake PSX Gameplay Trailer
• The blue glitchy overlay is the visual representation of Sephiroth interfering with Cloud's mind via Jenova cells
• Church in the Slums – Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
• Sector 5 Playground Final Fantasy VII Remake E3 Announcement Trailer
• Kalm – Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII
• Nibelheim Flashback – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children: Complete
• Junon – Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
• Forgotten Capital – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children: Complete
• Western Continent – Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII
• Lucrecia's Cave – Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII
• North Crater – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children: Complete
• Diamond Weapon – Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive (cameo)
• Rufus Shinra hit by Diamond Weapon's fire – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children: Complete
• Sister Ray – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children: Complete
• Zack Fair Flashback – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children: Complete
• Meteor (after rocket hit) – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children: Complete
• Meteorfall Evacuation – Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII
• Yuffie using the PHS – Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII
• Vincent's Chaos transformation Limit Break – Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII
• Ifrit Summon – Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
• Bahamut Summon – Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
• Core of the Planet (vs Jenova-SYNTHESIS/Bizarro Sephiroth) – FFVII Advent Children: Complete
• Cloud vs Sephiroth in the Lifestream – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children: Complete
• The Lifestream assists Holy – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children: Complete
• Midgar 500 Years Later – Final Fantasy VII Advent Children: Complete
• Ending quote is from the beginning of Advent Children
Note that I only took things that happen in the original, so no AC Cloud vs Sephiroth, post-Meteorfall town of Edge, Banora, Genesis or Omega Weapon. I also didn't include any footage from the E3 2005 tech demo since the PSX gameplay trailer and Crisis Core secret ending make that redundant.
I used exclusively cgi cutscenes for a more cinematic experience, but it's worth mentioning that Crisis Core has stages set in Midgar, Junon, Costa del Sol, Wutai, Nibelheim, the Shinra Manor, and the Mt Nibel reactor. Dirge of Cerberus has a stage set in Midgar's Train Graveyard, and the discontinued smartphone game FF7 G Bike re-enacted the Crazy Motorcycle section. Alongside the Chaos transformation, DoC also showcases a new model for Vincent's Galian Beast limit break, but it isn't in any cgi cutscenes so I didn't include it.
Outside the Compilation itself, Mobius Final Fantasy had a FFVII Remake event that featured Cloud's new model and some of the assets for the Mako Reactor from the announcement trailer, although in that campaign Sephiroth's model seems to have been lifted straight out of Dissidia NT and the Buster Sword taken out of Crisis Core since it has the gold adornments. Final Fantasy XIV featured the Golden Saucer as a location. Final Fantasy XV: Episode Prompto is set in the snowy mountains of Niflheim, and it really reminded me of the Northern Continent from VII.
