In this AU Melody can turn into a mermaid twice in a week since she is half mermaid, she doesn't need any help with it, it comes natural. Like in canon Morgana exists and Melody isn't allowed to go to the sea, she goes in secret.
One day while swimming she meets Jane, another girl who loves the sea, they understand each other, both love collecting sea items like shells and rocks, swimming and be near the sea. Soon both become close and share thier first love.
Scuttle and Sebastian don't really understand Melody, they try to persuade her to stop risking and getting on adventures with Jane. But both feel sympathy for girls, only don't think this love has any future.
Melody and Jane reply to them "call it what you want" and continue seeing each other.
Jane lives in the city with her aunt, her parents are in the other kingdom bacause of their business, they would be back by New Year. Jane and her aunt are not close and Jane doesn't have any friends, other kids think she just the sea too much, still plays with dolls in 14 and is just weird.
Melody is also 14 and kids in the palace don't like Melody either, sometimes it hurts but girls are happy to be themselves and they understand each other perfectly. But both live double lives, Melody is forced to go to palace balls, to dance with princes and act as a princess when all she wants is to be with Jane by the sea.
One day Melody can't stand it anymore and tells her mother the truth. Ariel is shocked and confused, she doesn't know how to react. Would she accept Melody and support her?
