In 2024, the Victorian Government will award a new long term service contract – the operations and maintenance contract for Melbourne’s trams.

This year, we are starting a competitive tender process, looking around the world for those best qualified to take part in our tender process.

Melbourne’s iconic tram network is the largest in the world, with 250 kilometres of double track, over 1600 tram stops and 24 routes.

Operating for more than 100 years, its fleet has more than 510 trams, with 8 depots, forming part of an integrated transport system with our road and rail network, servicing the city and linking to regional services.

New infrastructure and technology are improving accessibility and safety outcomes across our network.

The tram operations and maintenance will be under a newly designed contract, one that continues to modernise the experience for our passengers and delivers improvements at every stage of the journey.

The Government has invested significantly in new trams and supporting infrastructure, and this next contract will ensure that these are delivered to benefit passengers.
