Dale Carr | Meine Seele erhebt den Herrn, BWV648, by J.S. Bach, performed by Dale Carr in Noordwolde @dalecarr6361 | Uploaded May 2021 | Updated October 2024, 5 hours ago.
Meine Seele erhebt den Herrn, BWV648, by J.S. Bach, from the "Schübler" chorales ; performed by Dale Carr on the organ in Noordwolde {prov. Groningen} on 5 October, 1997.
The 6 Schübler chorales, which were published in 1748 or -9 by Georg Schübler of Zella, appear to be arrangements of movements from his cantatas, although the original version of one of them is unknown.
'Meine Seele erhebt den Herrn' is the beginning of the German text of the Magnificat; this work is transcribed from the 5th movement of the cantata {BWV10} with the same title, where it is scored as a duet for alto & tenor voices with the c.f. played by trumpet and 2 oboes, + basso continuo.
It appeared to work very well in Noordwolde to use the 8' Vox humana with the 4' Roerfluit on the Rugpositief for the duetting voices, and the 8' Trompet with the 4' Octaaf on the Manuaal for the cantus firmus. In the pedal I chose the 16' Bourdon + 8' Prestant. Thanx are due to Jan Veldkamp, who tuned the reed stops before the performance.
