The Royal Family are refusing to respond to Harry and Meghan’s demands for an apology, sources have revealed.
Insiders claim the royals are “baffled” that the pair want to meet to address their “issues”, as revealed by The Sun on Sunday, so soon after releasing their bruising docu-series.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex claim that they are the victims of “double standards” after charity boss Ngozi Fulani, 61, got an apology at Buckingham Palace from Lady Susan Hussey, 83.
The former lady-in-waiting to the Queen had asked the black British charity boss at a reception where she was “really from” .
But the Palace has no plans to give Harry and Meghan an audience, with one source insisting: “Who’s apologising to whom?”
Another told The Sun: “The King does not want to get involved in a public tit for tat.”
Royal expert Nigel Cawthorne believes the Palace will be “very surprised” by the Sussexes’ request.
He added: “It’s a bit rich after what they’ve done. For the King to offer any conciliation would be below the dignity of the Crown.
“Harry doesn’t understand that the relationship with his father has changed. And don’t forget we’ve still got Harry’s book Spare coming out, so things are only going to get worse.”
The book is said to include claims about the monarchy more controversial than the allegations made in the six hour-long episodes of the Netflix series.
According to the Sunday Times, Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41 — paid around £88 million ($160 million AUD) by Netflix — hope to reconcile with the Royal Family before King Charles’ coronation next May.
And a source in California said Harry hopes the show acts as a “wake-up call” for his family.
But a Palace source said: “If they want to get in touch with the King, they know where he lives.”
t comes as a poll reveals the Sussexes are among the most unpopular public figures with 48 per cent of Brits seeing them in a negative light.
Of the royals, only Prince Andrew, 62, is liked less.
Biographer Mr Cawthorne added: “The viewing figures for the Harry and Meghan extravaganza have been phenomenal, but people haven’t been sympathetic to them.”
