Megadeth's first show took place on February 17, 1984, at Ruthie’s Inn in San Francisco, where we borrowed as many Marshall cabinets as possible to create a massive stage presence. Dave Mustaine strategically chose to debut Megadeth in San Francisco due to his established fan base from Metallica, which helped the band gain traction. Ron McGovney, Metallica's original bassist, was never seriously considered for Megadeth, as he was more focused on a settled life rather than pursuing the rockstar lifestyle that Mustaine and the band required.
