Artwork so joyful, it inspired the Deans to host a party around it…literally. ☀️🦩

Derrick Adams’ paintings range from individual portraits to intricately configured, jubilant group scenes. For the “Floater” series (shown here), which he created between 2016-19, Adams centers Black subjects at leisure on vibrant pool floats.

Rendered in his characteristic, geometric style, this vast scene claims space for community, connection, and everyday pleasures as enjoyed by Black communities.
