The Eastern Hellbender has been called a lot of things: devil dog, snot otter and even lasagna lizard! No matter what you call them, this salamander needs our help! The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo has teamed up with Help the Hellbender, Purdue University and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to save this species. By raising 152 hellbenders behind the scenes, we’ve been able to learn more about the needs of this species and how we can better serve them. Once they are more mature, they will be released into the wild to help stimulate the population.
