Dare to experiment in the darkroom through the lens of Surrealist photography.
Led by photographer and ICP faculty member Jeanette Spicer, "Surrealism at Play: Experimental Darkroom Techniques" invites students to use techniques including montage, double exposure, solarization, and photograms to explore new ways of making and printing photographs. Alongside hands-on experimentation, the course looks at how Surrealist artists challenged ideas around perception, consciousness, gender, and reality.
In this video, Spicer shares what inspired her to create the course and what participants can expect over five weeks in the darkroom.
