Meet Dr. Amanda J. Guzmán, Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Co-Director of the Center for Caribbean Studies at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and Research Associate for 2024-2025 of Rooted + Relational!
Specializing in museum anthropology, she studies the history of collecting and exhibiting Puerto Rico. Her work has received support from institutions like the Smithsonian and the National Museum of American History, and in 2024, she co-authored a chapter in Pragmatic Imagination and the New Museum Anthropology.
Currently, Amanda is developing a book project titled From Island to Museum: Materializing Puerto Rican Object Itineraries, which explores the impact of North American museum collections on Puerto Rican history. Through her research, she uncovers forgotten narratives and examines the legacy of Puerto Rican objects in the global museum landscape.
Founded in 1973 by a coalition of students, faculty, and activists, the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College (CENTRO) is the largest university-based research institute, library, and archive dedicated to the Puerto Rican experience in the United States.
