đ§ A very special patient at SeaWorld Orlando today.
Meet Cecilia, an almost 18-year-old Magellanic penguin who recently developed a hernia. After a CT scan helped our veterinary team get a closer look, they determined that Cecilia needed surgery to repair it.
Two SeaWorld veterinarians performed the procedure, placing surgical mesh to strengthen her body wall. Cecilia received the same kinds of advanced care you might recognize from a human or pet hospital, including anesthesia, IV fluids, intubation and careful monitoring throughout her procedure and recovery.
And the good news? Cecilia did great. đ
She woke up nicely and was already showing plenty of her usual spunk. After a few hours recovering in our hospital, she headed back to her home with the other Magellanic penguins.
