This week we’re recognising National NAIDOC Week and contemplating the theme ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak Loud and Proud’. This year's theme invites all to stand in solidarity, amplify voices, and share the cultural heritage that enriches our nation.
Throughout National NAIDOC week we’ll be celebrating the incredible contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander composers and performers to the Australian musical landscape.
We were honoured to work with composer and proud Dharug man Christopher Sainsbury as part of our 50 Fanfares commissioning project. In this video, Christopher introduces his piece ‘String Talk’, composed for string orchestra. The narrative of the piece focuses on building culture around work with strings – and making music together as musicians, composer and audience.
‘String Talk’ will premiere later this month alongside our performances of ‘Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony’.
