Every year I take my family to Convict Lake. Same water, same mountains, same people a little older than the year before. This year I brought a $5,000 medium-format camera I didn't own and somewhere on that trip I stopped caring whether it was the right tool for the job.

The GFX 100RF is more camera than a family trip has any business needing. I could tell you about the resolution, the files, the way it renders — and I will. But that's not really what this video is about. It's about the strange thing that happens when you stop chasing the best camera and start using the one in your hands to keep the people you love. The gear is the supporting cast. The memory is the whole point.
There's also a small coincidence buried in this lake that I couldn't stop thinking about once I noticed it. You'll see.
