There are many good doctors who prioritize providing appropriate care that aligns with both their professional medical expertise and the patient’s wishes. However, not all medical professionals operate this way. Some patients have experienced situations where their doctors disregarded their concerns, imposing decisions based on their authority rather than engaging in a collaborative approach. The imbalance of power in medical settings can leave patients feeling bulldozed—overruled by someone with more education, experience, and the credentials to insist that their perspective is the only valid one.
This dynamic becomes even more troubling when ideological or religious beliefs are added to the equation. If a doctor already has the power to dictate care based on their expertise, what happens when they are legally allowed to refuse care based on personal convictions? It sets a dangerous precedent, allowing biases and moral judgments to override medical necessity. Rather than ensuring patient-centered care, this opens the door for more situations where personal ideology dictates treatment, making healthcare less about medical ethics and more about individual dogma.

The Non-Prophets is a internet show airing at 06:00pm Central time Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday each week. Where we navigate through current events, providing a secular viewpoint that adds depth to the unfolding narrative.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.
