WITH SOUNDCLIPS: The Ergodox is a crazy mechanical keyboard! And Ergodox EZ did a great job making one that you don't have to build yourself to get in on the fun. Here's all about the Ergodox and what makes the Ergodox EZ unique and fun.

I basically went through a week of using the Ergodox EZ every day. Here's what happens:
Day 1: I made a very standard keyboard layout for the Ergodox EZ, because I felt like a child using this thing. The columnar key rows actually messed me up a lot more than I thought it would. I had to give up half way through the day and use a regular keyboard just to get work done.
Day 2: OK, if I really focus, I can type on this thing, but I can hardly code with it because the increased focus means I can't really problem solve.
Day 3: I'm starting to get it...I'm actually also starting to miss it when I'm just on my laptop keyboard, because I notice just how un-ergonomic things like CMD+shift+somekey are.
Day 4: I'm totally hooked on the gently clickey gateron brown mechanical key switches. I also have gotten more comfortable with the keyboard so I've made a new firmware layout that customizes a lot of tasks that I found difficult on regular keyboards.
Day 5: Whenever I found a keyboard operation difficult on the Ergodox EZ, I added it to a list. Then, halfway through the day, I figured out how to configure the keyboard for those actions. (Things like cmd+ctrl+shift+4 for a screen shot are super simple when you have a cmd+ctrl key!) The list was a great idea.
Day 6: I scarily look forward to getting my hands on the Ergodox EZ firt thing every morning. It's like I miss the feeling because it's my own little customized world that I can't get anywhere but MY desk. Even when I have my laptop at Starbucks and it's the same machine, I find myself wanting to bring the keyboard with me. Did I mention how much I love mechanical keyboards!??
