GrumpyTim | Mechanical Calculator Demo - Electric Mercedes Euklid Model 21 - Retrotech @GrumpyTim | Uploaded 3 years ago | Updated 1 hour ago
In this video we're doing another mechanical calculator demo - this time we're featuring a Mercedes Euklid Model 21, electric powered mechanical calculator, made in Germany around 1940. The Model 21 features automatic division, which is always fascinating to watch on these old mechanical machines.

As is usually the case, when this machine arrived, it was seized solid and had some damaged and missing parts. It took a few days to free up all the old sticky oil and grease (dried oil and grease is often the cause of these machines seizing up) and repair/replace the broken and missing parts.

In the video we'll look at all the functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) plus a few other neat features this machine offers.

We'll also look at that old question of "what happens if you divide by zero" and explain why and how this can be an issue.
