A complex bellows, cam and clockwork motor work together to produce bird song. The song is played with gaps or continuously, as shown at the end of the film. Made in Paris circa 1900 by Bontems. Called a "Chant du Rossignol" (song of the forest), it was designed to stimulate real birds to sing in reply, which it still does most effectively today.
