Now that we’ve torn our 305 Chevy V8 down to the block, we’re ready for the next phase of our Junkyard Revival engine rebuild series: inspecting bearings, taking critical measurements, and removing any remaining plugs and dowel pins.

A closer inspection of the bearing surfaces can tell us a lot about the engine’s history and offer some clues into any potential problem areas we should examine. More importantly, this video will show you some critical measurements and calculations for any used engine block that will help it ready for machining.

That way, we’ll get a nice, finished block back from the machineshop, ready for a complete rebuild.
