All MDE students complete an Independent Design Engineering Project (IDEP), a year-long project that requires students to develop, prototype, and test a solution to a complex problem of their choosing. Project Kin by Priyanka Pillai and Julius Stein (both MDE ’24) developed ethical technology to facilitate trusted links and reconnections between family members who become separated within refugee camps. Project refinement and testing continue in 2025.
