McConnell’s Irish Whisky has a story that stretches back to 1776. From its humble beginnings with Hugh McConnell, a grocer and spirit dealer in Belfast, to Eleanor McConnell continuing the business as a distiller in 1841, resilience has always been at our core.
By 1899, J & J McConnell opened Cromac Distillery on Belfast’s Ravenhill Road, famed for its pure water and world-renowned ginger ale. But tragedy struck, fires in 1907 and 1909 destroyed whiskey stocks and warehouses, some of the worst in Belfast’s history.
Even after such setbacks, McConnell’s endured until Prohibition in the 1930s forced closure. Today, Belfast Distillery Company has proudly revived this legendary whiskey, bringing McConnell’s back to bars, pubs, and international markets.
From Belfast-born roots to worldwide recognition, McConnell’s is back, and we’re only getting started.
