A single-engine Piper PA-28 Cherokee lost power roughly five minutes after leaving John Wayne Airport on July 27th, 2026, and came down on the sand at Huntington State Beach with two people aboard. The pilot's Mayday call was captured on air traffic control audio, and both occupants walked away uninjured.
