Parts of Northern Louisiana experienced a 1-in-500- to 1-in-1,000-year rain event in the second week of March 2016. Much of the moisture came from the tropics via an atmospheric river that some weather forecasters dubbed a "Maya Express." This animation of the moisture flow is based on infrared data from the GOES East and West satellites between March 6-14, 2016.
