This event was captured on camera as Popocatépetl continued its ongoing activity under Mexico’s Volcanic Alert Level: Yellow Phase 2. Official CENAPRED-linked reporting for the day described continued low-intensity exhalations containing water vapor, volcanic gases, and ash, along with minor volcano-tectonic seismicity. The official exclusion zone around the crater remained at 12 km.
Popocatépetl, located in central Mexico between Puebla, Morelos, and the State of Mexico, is one of the country’s most active volcanoes. Its name comes from Nahuatl and is often translated as “Smoking Mountain.”
